Fresh Arts is a Houston-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering local artists and connecting communities through art. Born from a 2012 merger of Spacetaker (est. 2003) and Fresh Arts Coalition (est. 2002), the organization has over 20 years of history championing Houston-area artists across all disciplines.
Fresh Arts' mission is to empower local artists through programs that build knowledge, amplify local resources, and connect communities through art. The organization envisions Houston as a place where artists and communities thrive together.
Fresh Arts is powered by a small but dedicated team of full-time and part-time staff — all of whom are artists and creatives themselves. The admin office is located at Winter Street Studios in Houston.
Fresh Arts offers a robust suite of programs: Artist INC Houston (an eight-week professional development seminar), an annual Artist Summit conference, a Fiscal Sponsorship program for artist-led projects, the Space Taking Artist Residency, Arts District Houston (a state-recognized cultural district), and Make Music Day Houston. Online resources include an Artist Opportunity Board, Artist Resource Library, podcast series, and newsletters reaching over 10,000 subscribers monthly.
Fresh Arts engages the community through events, workshops, newsletters, social media, and its online resource platforms. The organization also partners with local businesses, nonprofits, and institutions to expand opportunities for Houston artists.
"We believe that by cultivating community, we can enhance the social capital of creatives and amplify a resonant collective voice that helps us all be seen and heard," according to the organization's website.
